Today Sunday the 7th of May 2017. Yeye Kudi's Dolapo junior sister Adewunmi posted on her Facebook page, telling people about the differences between a public nuisance, public figure and a celebrity.
Here is what she wrote!.
Was just thinking, it's like some folks have a grave misconception about what it means to be a public figure, a public nuisance, a celebrity, and a wannabe "popular jingo". They just get it all twisted. Anyway my job today is to highlight the difference in the best way that I can. Who knows, perhaps some people reading this may be able to properly define themselves henceforth.
Lets start with who qualifies a public figure. Although self explanatory, people still tend to misapproriate its definition. You just don't wake up one cool day to declare yourself a public figure. Nah!! Being a public figure comes with the territory and a distinct attribute. It ain't for kids at all.
For example, you're a public figure if you're a public official, or if you're pervasively involved in public affairs. Further more, public figures are resolute influencers who make things happen, starting from within their community. They are always grounded at the forefront because people tend to entrust them with intricate tasks.
In a nut shell, a public figure makes extra ordinary things happen for those with lesser capability to achieve a common goal. This is my definition. So, are you a public figure? π
Now, to the one we can term a public nuisance. A public nuisance is an unreasonable noise maker per excellence. An attention seeker who disrupts the Peace of everyone around them. These set of people do not necessarily have to be in the same room with you before you feel the adverse effect of their nuisance value. They spread like wild fire. They are simply crass and uncurbable. They actually abound on social media, it is their commonly used avenue to display their flagrant behaviour.
A public nuisance is always found amidst disputes. It'll interest you to know that when these set of nuisance get a little attention from the public because of their unruly behaviour, they quickly think themselves a "public figure". There goes the major misconception.. And gbam...they start to feel like the next best thing since sliced bread. I'll conclude that a public nuisance will always inconvenience you no matter where you find them. They are a virus so difficult to expunge. So on this note..are you a public nuisance? π€
Ok. Defining a celebrity is quite simple. So I won't dwell too much on this. A celebrity is a state of being well known. One who is widely recognised in a given society and commands a degree of public and media attention. Being a celeb comes with a Peculiar prestige. However, It takes a lot of hard work to attain this height.
But yet again, I find some social media nuisances declare themselves celebrities. Just like that. Hellooo...In what capacity if I may ask? If you're neither a known entertainer, a celebutante, a mogul, a reputable icon, etc..then sorry, try again next year..maybe. But in all, are you a qualified celebrity? π
Now, finally, to the 'I must belong popular jingos'. Actually, their case is quite similar to that of the public nuisance. And i reserve some kinda empathy for these ones. These are the insidious bunch who force themselves to belong to a certain group of people. One of their major attributes that is easily detectable from afar is acute low self esteem. They always want to know if people like them. They are loafers and are easily used by those who understand their insecurities. They generally ride on other people's popularity..
These "i must belong" set of people are social climbers with little or nothing going on for them in their personal lives. Albeit they front to be what they are not. They are the ones who'll call their Facebook friends thier "fans".. like seriously? Fans? πππ
These Wannabes always want to test their vague popularity by constantly flooding the social media with endearing stuff for public validation. They compete with obscure "haters" and people they barely even know. They always want to be heard, seen everywhere, and they sulk when attention is shifted away from them. They want to be praised for doing absolutely nothing. Amazing.. ain't it?
Oh, I can go on and on and on about wannabes. But let me stop here. So are you a wannabe? A public nuisance? A public figure? Or a celebrity? Hey, whatever your thoughts about my definitions, just make sure that you CHECK OR ALIGN WITH YOUR ACCURATE STATUS TODAY. Lest you fool yourself!!!
"Alright..Let me come and be going".
Happy Sunday "MY FANS"... Oops!! Winks
Chaiiiiiii,Aunty Dewunmi the heavens will surround you with unending wisdom.you just described it exactly as it is.I wonder when some people who constitute nuisance all over social media started tagging themselves as "Celebrities" perhaps they meant it the other way round "mumubrities" chaiiiiiiiiiiiii dis just made my day #Folashade Olubodun
